Warming, comforting and caffeine free Chai Mix. This is our drink of choice throughout winter, due to its soothing nature and healing properties from the spices.
Spices have been used for centuries around the world for their healing properties but are often overlooked in Western society when we consider what a healthy diet is. From aiding digestion to lowering blood sugar to fighting inflamation and generating a boost of antioxidants, spices are incredibly restorative.
On top of all this, they are delicious. Having a mug of chai is a treat for the body and soul.
With our recipe below, you can simply mix all the ground spices and leave in a jar in the pantry. Feel free to amend the spices to your preference and taste.
Around 35 servings per jar;
Chai Mix Ingredients;
4 Tbsp ground cinnamon
3 Tbsp ground ginger
4 1/2 tsp ground cardamon
1 Tbsp ground black pepper (reduce this by half if you prefer your chai more sweet than spicy)
3/4 tsp ground nutmeg
3/4 tsp ground cloves
Method;
Place all of the spices in a jar and mix.
For Serving;
1 tsp chai mix
1 tbsp raw honey (optional)
1 cup of milk or milk alternative of choice
Place 1 tsp of chai mix in a mug with honey and cover with enough boiling water to dissolve the spices and melt the honey. Stir together.
Warm your milk of choice and add to the mug of chai. Mix and enjoy!
To make it cafe quality, feel free to froth your milk before combining.
The chai mix should keep in your pantry for 3 months
